This article examines the evolution of the Museu Valencià de la Festa (Algemesí) from the principles of the New Museology to the emerging care museum paradigm, using the institutional response to the October 2024 DANA floods as a case study. Drawing on a qualitative case-study methodology and critical museological analysis, the paper explores strategies for safeguarding tangible, intangible, natural and domestic heritage, as well as processes of interinstitutional cooperation, community participation and social recovery developed by the Museu Valencià de la Festa and the L’ESART Contemporary Art Centre. The study argues that the heritage emergency accelerated a profound transformation in the role of local museums, shifting their mission from the preservation of collections towards care, mediation, resilience and knowledge exchange. The Algemesí experience is ultimately presented as a contribution to contemporary museum studies and to international debates on heritage emergency management, everyday heritage and the social role of museums in times of crisis.
