James I, Majorca, Valencia, Barcelona, CouncillorsAbstract
It's not difficult to make this request. Writing about James I, King of Catalonia, necessarily involves, first, an explanation of the fact that the kings of Catalonia, as such, were known as Counts of Barcelona. But once we get into the substance, it is also relevant, even if only briefly, to describe the conquest of Majorca and the Balearic Islands, with the exception of Minorca, for the simple reason that without Catalonia the king could not have done it. The same applies to the Valencian context, but in this case one must also refer to the significant presence of the Aragonese world. The Kingdom of Valencia, which was so named after the Christian victory over the Valencian Islamic emirate, presents a duality between Aragonese and Catalan from the conquest until at least the early 18th century with the Decrees of Nova Planta. These eliminated the autonomous kingdoms in favor of a centralized Spain. Once these issues, which were essential to address, have been clarified, the work focuses on the king's actions, primarily concerning Barcelona.Downloads
