Abstract

This article aims to be a state of the art overview of what were the causes, cha-racteristics and current legacy of the emigration which, from the Balearic Is-lands, in the main, from Mallorca, headed towards the south of the kingdom of Valencia after the expulsion of the Moriscos (1609). This migratory process resulted in the appearance of a significant number of towns and villages of island origin, some of which maintain the memory of their Mallorcan origin and preserve elements relating to dialect from the Catalan spoken in Mallorca.
